"Sahara" follows the adventures of Dirk Pitt (McConaughey), a ruggedly handsome outdoorsy guy obsessed with tracking down a Civil War battleship that mysteriously disappeared, which is logical since if it hadn’t mysteriously disappeared, Pitt wouldn’t really need to track it down, now would he? Along with childhood friend/comic relief pal Al
Giordino (Steve Zahn), Pitt spends his days searching for lost artifacts for the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), headed by Admiral James Sandecker (William H Macy), but the desire to uncover the exact whereabouts of the missing ship - nicknamed the Ship of Death (oh yeah, that’s real inviting) - is always foremost on his mind
Dirk and Al to monitor vessels in West Africa, where they face the beautiful Dr. Eva Rojas (Penelope Cruz), a relief worker World Health Organization (WHO), who drove his own. Eva must find a source of a mysterious disease sweeping the whole of Africa. Something that causes thousands of men, women and children who die, and must quickly find the source because it is spreading at an alarming rate. If Royas and his friends from the WHO did not search for the origin of the disease, the disease has spread to America, no more than six months. Gasp!
